April 2, 2010
Dear Parents:
As we begin the third and final trimester of this school year, we look forward to many events and activities that will take place at Ave Maria Catholic Academy.
On April 24th and May 1st, our second graders will make their First Holy Communion. Thank you to Mrs. DeRosa who has been preparing our students for this important day. First Holy Communion is a great celebration for our whole school. Our prayers remain with the second graders during this special time!
Our New York State assessments are quickly approaching. At the end of April, Grades 4, 6 and 8 will take the English Language Arts exam. The students have been working diligently with their teachers preparing for the tests. Thank you to Ms. Calcagnile for holding the After-School ELA Prep Class for our fourth graders.
On Thursday, April 15th, our much anticipated Ladies Night Out will take place at Roma View Catering. Thank you to Mrs. DeCandia and her committee who continue to work tirelessly to make the evening a success!
After many requests from our student body, AMCA will hold a "Pajama Day" on April 15th, to benefit the Ladies Night Out Journal. All pajamas must be appropriate, and no shorts or tank tops are permitted. Students should sneakers/shoes that will not cause them to slip or fall. A $3.00 donation will be collected on April 15th for those who would like to participate in Pajama Day.
Just a reminder that AMCA will be in session on Ascension Thursday, May 13th, and Friday, May 14th, to make up for the snow days in February. The students will attend Mass with their class on Ascension Thursday.
I would like to update you on the status of our new Science Lab. We have assembled a committee that consists of Board member, Ms. Breeda Connolly, Mr. DiPiazza (our 5th to 8th grade Science teacher), Dr. Jerry Antonino (a chiropractor), Mr. Steven Eriquez ( an electrical engineer), Mrs. Ann Marie Kerins (a registered nurse), and myself. We are currently in the process of making decisions concerning location, furniture, and equipment. I will update you as more information is available.
Our first annual Bowlathon raised over $4000.00. As promised, we are in the process of purchasing the new lap top cart and a set of computers with the money that was raised. Thank you to our Fundraising Committee and all the volunteers who helped make the rainy February day a fun-filled time for our students and their families.
As I have said before, one of the most important components of an effective school is the partnership formed between educators and parents working together for the best interest of our children. In order to give each child the best opportunity for success, we ask that we keep children at the forefront in all that we do. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Ave Maria Catholic Academy!
Warm regards,
Maria Cuomo
